Hopefully Sam doesn’t kill me for stealing this pic from
her Facebook page haha!
Once upon a time I used to tell everyone at the lunch table ‘food is fuel’ as I choked back yet another meal of dried gluten-free toast covered in tinned salmon.
After work I’d come home and heat my 3 gluten-free sausages in the microwave, pull the kumara chips out of the oven, and sit down to another bland dinner of processed blah.
Why? Because I had no idea what the hell to eat, and I’d resigned myself to a life filled with boring food.
Unsurprisingly, after a few months, I started to feel really lousy. And it was around that time that I met Sam.
It was through Sam that I attended my first ever cooking class, learned about good food, got directed to useful biomedical support, and got in touch with a wider community of allergy-free people who have all helped to make life easier.
Today I just want to do a shout out to Sam and to all supporters of us allergic people.
Thanks for helping us be healthy, and for spreading your knowledge with the world.
P.S. Sam has an interesting story to tell about how she treats her autistic children with the help of food and animals – click
to read the article in the Hamilton Press (page 7).
